On the 27th of August Asian Aid, in partnership with Avondale College Of Higher Education, is hosting its first ever Social Justice Spoken Word Event, dubbed “Poetic Justice.” Spoken Word can be defined as performance-based poetry that focuses on the aesthetics of word play and story-telling.

From the beginning of time, we’ve told stories. It is no different today in our modern culture, where we are bombarded with stories on a daily basis. How many are positive? How many were told with the hopes of changing the world for the better?

We need to facilitate the best channels for our future generations to learn, share, and collaborate about topics that will build positive values and wisdom. In the hopes of doing that, Asian Aid believes that creative expression can be a way to get our youth thinking about the broader challenges of the world and building their world view. That’s where Poetic Justice was born from – an event built on the foundation of spoken word, where original pieces are shared in with vigour, passion, enthusiasm, and elegance in the hopes to educate and inspire the listener.

Aspiring young poets from Macquarie College, Avondale School, and Central Coast Adventist School high schools, as well as selected students from Avondale College Of Higher Education will write their own unique pieces to share. Students have been busy having workshops in the lead-up to the event and their motivated English teachers are helping students hone their skill.
