Rewarding Ethical Behaviour

Monday, April 7, 2014

The challenge in business to always have employees act in an ethical manner has reached a critical point in the current business environment. Numerous recent examples abound of unethical actions and the negative impacts these have had on organisations.

But what about when organisations do act in an ethical manner?

The Ethisphere Institute, an American independent research centre that promotes best practice in corporate ethics and governance, has reviewed thousands of applications for The World’s Most Ethical Company designation, and three Australian companies have made the cut – all of them from the banking sector.

This year Ethisphere is honoring the largest group of organisations based outside the US ever – 38 organisations from 21 countries and five continents. Wouldn’t it be nice to see more Australian companies recognised for their ethical approach to business?

The challenge to implement a focus around ethical behaviour in business is welcomed by the Avondale Business School. We believe this is something that differentiates our students from students studying elsewhere. Our desire is to produce Business graduates who are ready to meet the needs of their employers in a workplace setting, but do so while acting in a highly ethical manner.
