Having trouble connecting to ProQuest or other databases?

A number of databases, such as ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and Informit have recently undergone some changes to the way they work. This might result in a message telling you the site is not secure when you try to access journal articles and other resources, or you might have difficulty downloading pdf documents. Please be assured that these sites and Avondale’s connection to them are as safe as they have always been. The good news is: in most cases, it takes just a few mouse clicks to fix the problem.

For example:

  1. In Firefox, click the ‘Advanced’ button as seen in the image below. In other browsers, there may be a ‘Proceed’ button, or something similar. Follow the prompts to quickly and easily add an exception to your browser’s rules. You’ll be back in business in less than a minute, and able to access journal articles and other database resources.

2. In Safari, you might get a ‘Continue’ option, as seen here:

3. In Chrome, right-click on the ‘Download PDF’ link and choose ‘Open link in new window.’ Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to download PDFs as usual.

If you’re still having trouble, please contact the library – we’ll be happy to help you.
