Lecturers’ support helps open Felled Timber Creek Walk

A new walking track has opened on the Avondale Estate thanks in part to the support of two Avondale College of Higher Education lecturers. Felled Timber Creek Walk extends to seven and a half kilometres the length of tracks on the estate. “The exciting thing about this one is it connects Boys Walk to the north side of Cooranbong,” says Dr Darren Morton, who with brother Dr Jason Morton supported the development of the track as part of a commitment to improve all the walks on the estate. The track, which begins on the southern side of the bridge over Dora Creek, also helps residents from Avondale Retirement Village cross busy Freemans Drive. “It’s a safe method of getting to the other side,” says Garden Committee chair Bill Cross. “It’s also a pleasant walk along the creek among the trees on a sunny day—and if you’re lucky, you might spot a platypus.”—Josh Dye, public relations intern, Avondale College of Higher Education Credit: Lagani Gairo.
