Magazine endorses lecturer’s book project
A book about John’s gospel initiated by an Avondale lecturer has received an endorsement from the flagship magazine of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Inspired by a sermon of Kendra Haloviak Valentine, Dr Carolyn Rickett and then colleague Dr Robyn Priestly wrote a research grant proposal to publish Signs To Life, a series of sermons Kendra preached about the seven signs found in the first half of John.
Adventist Review coordinating editor Stephen Chavez, in a review published in the October 17 issue of the magazine, describes Kendra as a “perceptive author” who “skilfully ties these stories to the past, and links them to future events in Christ’s ministry. . . . Like me, you’ll often find yourself thinking, Why haven’t I seen this before?”
And part two of the book, a reflection by Carolyn and three of her colleagues—all scholars at Avondale—on their reading of and response to the gospel: “A real bonus,” writes Stephen.
