Minister’s career one of unwavering dedication to local church

Errol Singer lived in 20 houses over the course of his local Seventh-day Adventist church ministry. “We survived,” he says, reflecting on the support of wife Michelle and children Sherrilyn, Karina, Charissa and Damien. Errol felt called, so he went. And he served with compassion and empathy, accepting all of those whom God placed in his path.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Theology) at Avondale in 1980, Errol briefly sold Adventist literature in Tasmania before receiving a call from the church in Victoria, where he would minister for almost 12 years. During this time, he returned to Avondale to complete one of the first Master of Arts (Theology) courses.

Errol would continue his ministry back home in New Zealand, pastoring 14 churches on the North Island over more than 20 years. Sharing life with Polynesian Adventists for 12 of these years is one of his most memorable experiences. Experiencing their culture, their dreams and their love—“buried in gifts”—enriched Errol’s perception of God’s work in this world. As did two overseas professional development tours in 1995 and 2009 and his love of reading a range of ministry-related literature, both of which brought fresh insight.

“God’s calling is His enabling,” says Errol. “He can use what you give Him regardless of what you start with and where you find yourself at any point in life.” Errol continues to serve, now as a volunteer, to relieve hardship and teach the Bible in his local community.

The Class of 1980 honours Pr Errol Singer for his unwavering dedication to serving others with integrity and heart.
