Avondale authors feature prominently on top book list

Books by Avondale academics and alumni fill nine of the top 20 places on a list of bestsellers through Adventist Book Centres in 2020.

At number one is the pocket edition of Associate Professor Darren Morton’s Live More Happy. The book has appeared on the Bookshelf Top 20 list for the past two years, but publication of the condensed edition has given it a new lease of life, says Signs Publishing Book Editor Nathan Brown. “This sharing edition has been distributed by the tens of thousands by conferences, churches and literature evangelists this year—and at a time when so many of us, as well as those in our communities, have needed help with building emotional wellbeing and resilience.”

Other books on the list include:

  • Living 28: Fresh Perspectives on Practising our Faith (3), a collection of columns—many by young alumni—about the fundamental beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church edited by alumnus and Adventist Record editor Jarrod Stackelroth,
  • The autobiographical Far Away From Home (4) co-authored by alumnus Pr Clive Nash,
  • Alumnus and business consultant Dr Ken Long’s The Giving Equation (5),
  • Last year’s number one As Light Lingers (12) by arts and teaching alumna Nina Atcheson, and
  • Avondale Seminarian Dr Kayle de Waal’s Hearing the Way (17).

Alumnus Dr Peter Roennfeldt is proving to be a prolific writer. He has three books on the list, again. If You Are Thirsty, You Can Be Spirit-filled (7) is also the newest release of all the books on the list. Following the Apostles’ Vision (13) and If You Can Eat. . . You Can Make Disciples (15) are the others.
