Christian emphasis for world’s premier business degree

Offering the world’s premier business degree at Avondale from next year will give students skills for careers in leadership and management informed by Christian values.

The new Master of Business Administration (MBA) differs from the same degree at other higher education providers because it recognises a Seventh-day Adventist worldview. “This impacts on the values, ethical foundations and emphasis of the content,” says course coordinator Warrick Long, a senior lecturer in the Avondale Business School. “Students not only learn and apply the latest in leadership and management thinking but do so through the lens of Christianity.”

The range of skills in which training is offered and the ability to transfer them across a variety of industries not only makes the degree popular but the preferred qualification for executive roles, says Long. “It enables professionals to transition into senior leadership and management and it emphasises strategic thinking and application of knowledge in practical, real-life contexts.”

The degree is the next step in the development of Avondale’s postgraduate leadership program, which began as the Master of Arts (Leadership & Management) in 1998 and became the Master of Leadership and Management. “As the needs of business change, we keep the information in our courses relevant to ensure our graduates have an award that is easily and now instantly recognised for its quality and content,” says Long.

The MBA will complement the existing Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate in Leadership & Management. As a workplace-focused degree, it features flexible study options and no examinations.

Avondale is accepting enrolments for 2021 now.
