May: Citation mining
Thursday, May 28, 2020Here’s a little trick that your friends who always get HDs are probably already using…citation mining. What does this mean? Basically, once you find the “perfect reference,” you search backwards through its reference list to see who the author cited in their work, and then you read those articles. Citation mining is also looking forward to see who has cited the author of your “perfect reference,” and reading those articles too. It’s also checking out what else the author of your “perfect reference” has written…often it’s on the same, or similar topic.
Lori Christianson from Cummings Graduate Institute explains this process so well. Watch this video to learn strategies on what to do when your research gathering has stalled.
