Community members respond to Market Day mantra

Threatening weather failed to dampen the friendly and fun atmosphere at Avondale College of Higher Education’s first Market Day Southlake on Sunday (October 21). More than 300 members of the community attended. Thirty-five stallholders sold fruit and vegetables, homemade arts and crafts and baked goods. Pr Paul Rankin presented four Coronary Health Improvement Program mini-seminars in his role as director of the program for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the South Pacific. Local artists (including Ali and Leighton, pictured) played live during lunch. And children enjoyed face painting, games, a jumping castle, a petting zoo and pottery art. “For a long time we’ve wanted to share Avondale with the community around us, and with Market Day Southlake, we were able to do that,” says Avondale’s marketing manager Jo-Anne Vint, who’s team helped support the Bachelor of Arts (Communication) students organising the day. “We had so many different people come to shop, play and relax; they didn’t leave disappointed.”—Narkisska Spruce, Bachelor of Arts student, Avondale College of Higher Education
