Featuring: Keynotes from Todd Saunders, Executive General Manager—Australia, Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing; Dr Lisa Barnes, Lecturer, Newcastle Business School, The University of Newcastle, whose academic interest is in corporate governance; and Simon Calder, Principal at Mercer Investments, who will share its insights and perspectives on the economic outlook for Australia.

Also featuring: Andrew Rigele of Grant Thornton Australia who will present a technical session on accounting standards.

Proceeds from this seminar will fund the refurbishment of a collaborative learning and information centre for students at Avondale Business School.

Presenters

Todd Saunders is Executive General Manager—Australia for Sanitarium Health and Wellbeing. He has held the role since January 2011. Previously, Saunders served as Strategic Planning and Development Manager for Sanitarium from September 2009 to December 2010. He gained his manufacturing experience with Sanitarium Health Food Company, progressing through the finance ranks to become the company’s youngest General Manager—Commercial at age 29. Saunders also held business unit general management and management accounting roles with Sanitarium, in factories and distribution centres, throughout the 1990s.

Dr Lisa Barnes is Coordinator of the Newcastle Business School on the Ourimbah campus of The University of Newcastle. She lectures in accounting and finance. Her areas of research include accounting, corporate governance, innovation and social responsibility. Barnes received a nationally-recognised B-Hert Award in 2013 for Outstanding Achievement in Accounting Teaching Collaboration.

Simon Calder is a Principal at Mercer Investments and is a senior member of both Mercer’s Global and Australian Dynamic Asset Allocation specialist teams. Calder’s primary responsibility is the development of medium-term portfolio tilting strategies. Before joining Mercer in December 2008, Calder gained more than 20 years of experience in economic analysis, economic forecasting and investment strategy, including working as an international economist with National Australia Bank. He was also Chief Economist with JB Were & Son, responsible for international and Australian interest rate and exchange rate forecasts and tactical asset allocation strategies, as well as contributing to the Australian equity investment strategy. Calder also previously worked with the Australian Treasury Department.

Andrew Rigele has more than 20 years of international experience with Grant Thornton and has worked in various service lines encompassing external audit, business risk services, due diligence and technical financial reporting. As well as managing his client portfolio, Rigele served on the Board of Directors of Grant Thornton Australia Limited and is part of the Grant Thornton Hospital and Aged Care Group. He has significant experience in the education and not-for-profit sectors and services clients such as the Adventist HealthCare, Hammond Care, RT Health and Westfund.
