A Sunshine Coast writer and Manifest alumna has self published and launched a book exploring the dramatic life change that comes with motherhood.

Described as “a real conversation about the early tumultuous days of parenthood,” Georgina Hobson’s Lifted draws on her experience, her conversations with many other mothers and her faith to bring honesty, comfort and hope to new mothers.

“Conscious of the time challenges facing mothers, the book is deliberately short and in a style that can be picked up from any page,” says Georgina, who wrote in response to the noticeable lack of this kind of book at the time of her becoming a mother.

Lifted will speak to women just beginning their journey, as well as those further down the road and may even help their partners gain insight into their new perspective.”

Georgina made the short list for the Signs Publishing Company Prize at the Manifest Creative Arts Festival this year. She is mother of two boys, Kai, 7, and Toby, 5.

Her blog has chronicled the process of making this project into a book. “The reality of time, persistence and a little silliness keeps a project of this nature rolling along,” she wrote in early November, as she prepared the book for the printers.

It was lovely to meet you at Manifest and to purchase your book, Georgina. I read it from cover to cover when I got home and then gave it to my daughter-in-law, Bec. A week later, I asked if she had read Georgina’s book. She looked thoughtful for a moment and then asked, “The mothers’ book? I’d like to buy a copy for all the mums at mothers’ group.” Bec leads out a mothers’ group at Highway Christian Church in Ulladulla every Wednesday morning. The roll up has been around 30 mums since the start of this year, so Bec is doing a mighty job. We decided it was probably too expensive to buy a copy for each mum, but Bec might be able to read some of the book each week or use the book for starting their discussion session. Great work, Georgina. Your book is much appreciated down here on the South Coast of New South Wales.

    • Wow! Thank you, Lois. It means a lot knowing you purchased a copy of the book in good faith straight after the panel discussion at Manifest. I’m so pleased you enjoyed the book, that it has brought encouragement to Rebecca and that she will share it with her group. This is such an encouragement to me and re-enforces the reason I created the book. God bless.

  2. Congratulations, Georgina. You are awesome and I just know your book will be awesome, too.
