New statement to help grads find work

Most students graduating from Avondale College of Higher Education this year will receive a new statement improving the recognition and portability of their award.

The Australian Higher Education Graduation Statement (AHEGS) combines a graduate’s academic transcript with information about: the graduate’s course provider, course and achievements; and the Australian higher education sector.

The statement should help graduates as they seek work or pursue further study because it provides employers, higher education providers and professional associations with more information about the graduate and their award and with information that is consistent across the sector, which makes comparisons easier.

Students will continue to receive an academic transcript, a secondary transcript (if they choose) and a testamur from Avondale when they graduate.

Avondale will issue an AHEGS to graduates of bachelor degrees and higher.

Many public universities received federal government funding to implement their AHEGS. As part of the agreement to provide the funds, the government created a deadline for when the universities would have to start issuing their AHEGS. Some of the universities have been issuing AHEGS since 2009.
