Multi-instrumentalist and his minister bring more meaning to musical narrative

Memories of belonging to a creative Christian fellowship returned as three jazz musicians joined their former minister to a resurrect a musical narrative about Jesus.

James and John Morrison and composer David Pudney reminisced during Jesus: HIStory, which also featured The Promise and Avondale Jazz Ensemble, about listening to the sermons preached by Pr Neil Gough.

Rather than thumping a Bible on a pulpit to make a point, James remembers Neil pulling out a trombone—the minister taught the multi-instrumentalist to play.

Neil narrated during the concert at Wallsend Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sunday (October 19). His words bought new meaning to the narrative—the 84-year-old had found his preaching voice again.
