We look forward to playing our role in shaping a diverse and inclusive tertiary education sector
Avondale University welcomes the release of the Australian Universities Accord Interim Report by Minister for Education Jason Clare this week.
With our 126-year history of providing post-secondary education in the rapidly growing region of Lake Macquarie, we are pleased to see the federal government’s commitment to extending local access to tertiary education through the creation of more Regional University Centres. As Australia’s newest university, Avondale is deeply committed to supporting student access and success in higher education.
We applaud the report’s focus on creating a fair system that encourages institutional diversity and emphasises the quality of university teaching and student engagement.
The report’s commitment to First Nations students is particularly welcome. Three per cent of our nursing students and 2.4 per cent of all undergraduates at Avondale identify as First Nations people and we look forward to enhanced learning opportunities and outcomes for future First Nations students.
This is, indeed, a once-in-a-generation reform agenda. Avondale University looks forward to playing our role in shaping a diverse and inclusive tertiary education sector in Australia.
