Provides continuity as search for new vice-chancellor continues
Highly-regarded Seventh-day Adventist educator Dr Malcolm Coulson has been appointed interim vice-chancellor and president of Avondale University.
The announcement follows a decision by current vice-chancellor and president Professor Kerri-Lee Krause to call time on her tenure.
Dr Coulson brings to Avondale years of experience in the Adventist education sector, in which he has served as a teacher, principal, lecturer and administrator. A former president of Fulton Adventist University College in Fiji, he is currently director of education for the church in the South Pacific.
Dr Coulson maintains close ties to Avondale, having served previously as its vice-president (learning and teaching). As a member of Avondale Council, he helped develop a Renewal Plan for sustainability and growth and prepare the university’s re-registration submission.
“I am honoured to work with the administration, staff and students as we ensure continuity in the period leading up to the appointment of a new vice-chancellor,” he says. “We will miss the leadership and clarity of direction provided by Professor Krause.”
Chancellor Pr Glenn Townend says Dr Coulson’s experience in educational leadership is an asset. “Malcolm is a strong Adventist education leader who has the knowledge and experience Avondale needs.” His appointment as interim vice-chancellor and president “allows a longer period to find the right person to lead Avondale into its desired future.”
Dr Coulson plans to begin his tenure on June 24. He will work closely with Professor Krause until her contract ends in July.
