Adventuring in Tokyo

Friday, June 21, 2019

Tokyo is a massive city, with buildings extending to the horizon, knowing what to do and how to do it makes your experience one of the greatest moments of your life, and makes sure the locals enjoy having you visit their wonderful city.

First off let’s start with the culture. Culture is what Japan is built on, and respecting that culture keeps you and everyone else happy. The Japanese people are respectful, kind, helpful, and will go out of their way for you. Police officers patrol different districts and will escort you to a location if you’re lost, even if it’s a café you’re struggling to find. The locals are used to helping tourists and most of Tokyo speak the basics of English, so getting lost isn’t scary, in fact The Independent along with The Economist’s surveys found Tokyo to be the safest city in the world!

Secondly: the cost, the dreaded thought when travelling. Visiting Tokyo for a week will cost you around $3,000 AUD for a week, however that’s mostly the plane ticket to the city and back, with the quickest flight of 11 hours being around $1,200 AUD. The cheapest, longest flight is around $900 AUD. The rest of the money depends on how much you really want to, everything costs around the same amount as it does here in Australia if not cheaper. Overall planning what you’re doing can help you to budget, but $3,000 AUD for one week including flights is a good goal to aim for. Accommodation in dorms is around $40 AUD a night.

Once you have that sorted,  there are tons of things to do in Tokyo,

  • Owl Café – Enjoy a coffee with your new avian friends.
  • Robot Café – A superb way to experience the performing arts and surreal acting Japan has to offer.
  • Snowy Mountain Gondola – Experience the natural beauty of Japan’s mountains.

There are also hidden gems around Tokyo as you’d expect. Many of which are quite easy to find, despite them being hidden gems. Reissue Café specializes in latte art, it doesn’t just include two-dimensional art, the café goes as far as the third dimension!

Generally, Tokyo has amazing cafés, ranging from quiet, beautiful back street ones where you can have a coffee and watch the busy local populace go by, to the extravagant and over-the
-top cafés, there is always something to suit your mood for the day.

In the end, Tokyo, Japan has the most amazing culture and lifestyle around it, the city is simply captivating and can cater to everyone’s inner adventurist, country or city orientated. Visiting Japan is truly a trip everyone who is interested in a respectful, vibrant, exotic culture should take, there is nothing like going through the busy streets from store to store, and then visiting a quiet temple and admiring the beauty of it. The snow crested rolling mountains, the quiet villages on the outskirts, to the bustling life within the suburban areas, there is nothing quite like it. Tokyo is the city to visit.
