Time Management Tips

Thursday, April 24, 2014

It has been 8 weeks since the start of college this year. Within the first few days many students quickly learn (or remember) that managing time is one of the most challenging — and difficult — aspects of being in school. With so much to do and keep track of, strong time management skills can make all the difference.

How often do you find yourself running out of time?  Weekly, daily, hourly? For many people, it seems that there’s just never enough time in the day to get everything done. When you know how to manage your time you gain control of what you achieve.

I found this related article by Kelci Lucier that might be helpful to you.

Also I would like to share with you some of my favourite time management techniques, from a Christian perspective:

Jesus is a good example of time management:

i.            Jesus made sure He got given His instructions first thing – or at least tuned into them.

ii.            Jesus was where God wanted Him; not necessarily where He or others felt He should be.

iii.            Jesus life demonstrated the preparation necessary for His ministry

Using these principles, here are my tips for managing your time:

  1. Working by priorities – Not Activities
  2. Make a SMART plan
  3. Find out where your time actually goes
  4. Be aware of time takers

Time management can be one of the best skills you learn while you are in college, and feel free to talk to any of the ABS team for more tips on effective time management.

“Our time belongs to God. Every moment is His, and we are under the most solemn obligation to improve it to his glory. Of no talent He has given will He require a more strict account of our time.” —Christ Object Lessons, p 342
