More staff join leading national professional association

More than 70 Avondale College of Higher Education staff members have now joined the only national professional association representing educators across all sectors and systems.

Membership at Avondale of the Australian College of Educators (ACE) has increased significantly from only six in 2008.

“ACE is for educators who’ve made a commitment to the profession and to their professional growth by engaging with their colleagues in activities that focus on the enduring educational issues and the hot topics of the day,” says Dr Philip Brown, vice-president (learning and teaching) at Avondale and secretary–treasurer and president-elect of ACE in New South Wales.

He describes ACE as providing an independent voice for educators and “a forum in which to provide information, discuss issues and seek to find shared solutions to problems.”

ACE stimulates and supports communities of practice, develops national, regional and local networks, provides publications, supports the activities of branches and regional groups and conducts and circulates research via its foundation. It also recognises distinctive contributions to education in Australia by awarding educators fellowships and College Medals.

Avondale College of Higher Education will host as part of its Learning and Teaching Week, October 24-28, 2011, a twilight event for all members of the Australian College of Educators in the Hunter. The event, on the Lake Macquarie campus, will coincide with World Teachers’ Day.
